Getting away with murder: Humbert retells the murder of Clare Quilty in such a way that makes it seem he was acting in a play. He sets up the characters and the action and then talks about it as if he was an audience member watching it all unfold. He then goes and tells the people in the drawing room that he has just killed Clare Quilty. He then leaves in a daze. He obviously did not get away with murder because he is in jail for the murder of Quilty, but in his mind, the murder was secondary to the way he had treated Lolita. Even if Quilty deserved to die, someone still needed to pay for his murder.

Sex in America: Vladimir Nabokov was from Russia where sex in the 20th century was often violent towards women. He probably still believed that Europeans had better sex than Americans though because Europeans are more free with nudity and their sexuality than Americans are. Americans are prudish. However, everyone can agree that sex with children is completely wrong, even murderers in prison will beat you up if you commit a crime against a child, especially if you rape them.

Church Blast kills 4 girls: The article doesn’t list how old the girls are, just that they are little. This could mean that they were very young, like five or six. Humbert wouldn’t have really cared because he says that nymphets are between the ages of nine and fourteen. If the four girls that were killed were not in that age group, he wouldn’t have paid this bombing any attention. Also, the bombing takes place at a Black Church and I think that Humber would have been racist.
